Red Bull F1 Gaming Seat Is Where Mark Webber RelaxesWhen he's not mountain biking or breaking his bones.
As anyone who’s ever tried to play Gran Turismo with a Playstation controller or Need For Speed on a QWERTY keyboard knows, the importance of a proper wheel-and-pedal setup for racing video games really can’t be understated. And once you have the best controls for the job, it’s only a matter of time until you realize you need a chair that orients the controls the way you want them. (Balancing that wheel on your lap gets real old, real fast.)
Now, plenty of companies out there make seating setups for racing games…but none of them pack as much Formula One-inspired awesomness as Playseat’s F1 Red Bull chair, which goes on sale in June. The company claims it “exactly reproduces the driving position of a Formula 1 racing car,” which means now when you play F1 2010, you’ll be able to feel the exact same numbness in your buttocks your favorite drivers deal with every day.
Of course, while you’ll appreciate the realistic seating during game play, the Red Bull livery is what you’ll be paying the most attention to when you’re not in the chair. We gotta say, it looks pretty sharp—between the colors and the sleek design, this butt holder’s almost an objet d’art. Also, you don’t have to roll it out of sight when you bring girls over. Having a regular video game chair in your living room says “I’m an antisocial geek;” having one with the same colors as Mark Webber’s F1 car says, “I’m a European-style racing enthusiast. With money.”
Speaking of money, the F1 Red Bull goes for £869, which works out to $1,393 today (though it’s temporarily marked down to £819, or $1,313). At that price, it’s a damn good thing you don’t have to wheel it away when company comes over. No one should be ashamed of a $1,400 piece of furniture.
